Join the William Penn House team and community!

We seek team-oriented individuals committed to radical hospitality, building community, and supporting peace and justice activism based on Quaker values and testimonies to join our diverse and dynamic residential community and non-resident staff.   We welcome applicants of any religious or secular tradition, however they should be grounded in a faith or philosophical worldview that is compatible with and respectful of the teachings of the Religious Society of Friends on which our work for peace, justice, environmental sustainability, and social equality is based.

Residential staff and volunteer positions include a private room (just 5 blocks from the U.S. Capitol) and a shared grocery budget.  Please see below for current openings if the opportunity to join this community and share in our work speaks to you!

Associate Resident Manager

The Associate Resident Manager works closely with the Resident Manager, non-resident staff, interns and volunteers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our guests and to ensure the health and well-being of our guests, the hospitality program, resident community and our beautiful, old Capitol Hill row house.  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, building a vibrant, spirit-led resident community and collaborating on all aspects of hospitality management, volunteer recruitment, outreach, marketing, fundraising, daily upkeep and building maintenance. Details here.

Friend in Residence

William Penn House seeks a seasoned Quaker individual (or couple) to be a core part of our residential staff community and serve as a resource to William Penn House and the community that we serve, engaging with interested guests and staff about Quakerism and helping ground the life of the House in the Life of the Spirit. The primary roles of the Friend(s) in Residence include, but are not limited to participating in the daily activities of the hospitality program — from taking reservations and welcoming guests to helping with laundry — developing  and supporting WPH educational programs and public events and assisting with marketing, outreach, facility maintenance, and other WPH activities. Details here.

Resident Hospitality Volunteer

The Resident Hospitality Volunteer will serve approximately 20 hours per week, supporting all aspects of our hospitality program from taking reservations, preparing rooms and welcoming guests, participating fully in the life of the resident community and participating in other aspects of WPH programs as time allows.  This position is designed to allow ample time for other pursuits such as graduate studies, research, part-time work or internship. We welcome applicants of any religious or secular tradition, however they should be grounded in a faith or philosophical worldview that is compatible with and respectful of the teachings of the Religious Society of Friends on which our work for peace, justice, environmental sustainability, and social equality is based.  Details here.
