Social Justice Movie Screening & Discussion: “More Than A Word”

6:30 pm

February 2, 2018

Join us the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 7, for a screening and discussion of "More Than a Word," a documentary about Native American-based sports mascots and the campaign to change the name of the Washington R*dskins.

As the world gears up for Super Bowl Sunday, we are planning a different kind of watch party at William Penn House – one that highlights racism within the NFL and draws attention the work of DC-based indigenous activists in confronting racist sports mascots.

Join us the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 7, for a screening and discussion of “More Than a Word,” a documentary about Native American-based sports mascots and the campaign to change the name of the Washington R*dskins.

This event will be the second in a series of Social Justice Movie Nights held in the William Penn House living room. The documentary will be followed by a discussion facilitated by members of the Rising Hearts Coalition, the group behind the “Washington Redhawks” culture jam which has been actively involved in leading the campaign to change racist sports mascots. There will be snacks and we will “pass the hat” to collect donations for Rising Hearts. All are welcome – we hope you’ll join us!
