Washington Quaker Workcamps
Since 1986, Washington Quaker Workcamps has created opportunities for people of all ages to experience the transforming power of love through service.
Through this program, we take groups to food kitchens, service programs and homes to do volunteer work. But we also integrate activities that put the service experience in a larger global and historical context, encouraging participants to consider not just the problem and the short-term solution, but what we can learn about the problems and ourselves so that we can end or not repeat the problem.
Within 3 miles of our building, we have some of the greatest wealth of national and world history, and we also have some of the worst environmental, social and living conditions in the country. Through WQW, we nurture a learning and reflection process that makes connections between the history and the issues in our midst so we can see more clearly what we can do to make a difference.
Our purpose in running WQW is to facilitate a service learning experience for the groups that come here, so Greg or Brad or one of our interns always accompany the group to all of the projects around DC to help with this process.
We have no set program, because we want to build programs that fit the groups that come here, rather than have the groups fit our programs. Please feel free to contact Greg (wqw@williampennhouse.org) to set up a workcamp or if you have more questions.
